Women’s equal participation in the workforce is not only a demand for simple justice or democracy, but can also be seen as a necessary condition for women’s interests to be taken into account. Without the active participation of women and factoring their perspective in organizational decision-making, the progressive growth of organizations cannot be realized. Despite India’s admirable record of economic growth, gender inequalities in the workplace do persist. Although the situation is improving and there is hope for a more diverse and inclusive workforce, the change is gradual. With the onset of the pandemic and a virtual work setting, patriarchal gender-roles have seen drastic shifts. The pandemic has underscored society’s reliance on women at the front lines and at home. Further, lack of access to limited resources and appropriate networks is leading to women facing disproportionate economic impact. Empowering women is a matter of envisioning and realizing a brighter, gender-equal future. The gap can be bridged through progressive policy-making and by leveraging technology to foster an equitable and diverse environment at the workplace. In order to truly exceed in making provisions for women participation in traditionally male dominated fields, a sustainable framework needs to be employed. The panel will touch light upon the scope and potential of such initiatives, as well as various challenges encountered.
